Environmental Policy

Our Commitment

Nature’s Work recognises that the natural environment is central to the outdoor activities and experiences we provide. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations, protecting the places in which we work and encouraging responsible behaviour among our clients, staff and partners.

We aim to continually improve our environmental performance through practical measures that are appropriate to the size and nature of our business.

1. Our Environmental Principles

1.1 Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

We will apply the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle wherever reasonably practicable across our operations.

This includes:

  • reducing unnecessary consumption of materials and resources;
  • avoiding unnecessary single-use items;
  • reusing equipment and materials where it is safe and appropriate to do so;
  • recycling waste wherever suitable facilities are available; and
  • disposing of waste responsibly.

2. Environmental Education

We will use our courses and outdoor programmes to encourage greater awareness and understanding of the natural environment.

Where appropriate, clients will be encouraged to:

  • respect the countryside and natural habitats;
  • follow relevant access and countryside codes;
  • minimise disturbance to wildlife, livestock and other land users;
  • take all litter home or dispose of it responsibly;
  • use established paths and routes where appropriate; and
  • leave natural features and habitats undisturbed.

We will seek to promote responsible enjoyment of the outdoors and the principle of Leave No Trace where appropriate to the activity and location.

3. Supporting Environmental Organisations

Where appropriate and practical, Nature’s Work will develop and maintain links with environmental organisations, charities, land managers and conservation initiatives.

We will seek opportunities to support or participate in relevant environmental and conservation projects through our work and professional network.

4. Continuous Improvement and Best Practice

We will keep our environmental practices under review and seek to improve them as appropriate.

We will consider relevant:

  • environmental legislation and regulatory requirements;
  • industry guidance and recognised good practice;
  • developments in environmental management;
  • local conservation priorities; and
  • practical opportunities to reduce our environmental impact.

Where appropriate, we will share relevant environmental information and good practice with our clients, staff and partners.

5. Travel and Transport

Travel is an important part of delivering outdoor activities and can contribute significantly to our environmental impact.

Where practical, we will:

  • encourage clients and staff to car share when travelling to activity locations;
  • plan activities and meeting points sensitively to minimise unnecessary travel;
  • select appropriate local venues and field sites where this can be achieved without compromising the safety or quality of the activity;
  • minimise unnecessary vehicle journeys;
  • encourage the use of public transport or other lower-impact travel options where practical; and
  • combine journeys where reasonably possible.

Safety, accessibility and the suitability of transport options will always be taken into account when planning activities.

6. Protecting the Places Where We Work

Nature’s Work will seek to minimise disturbance and environmental damage at the locations where we operate.

We will encourage responsible access and use of the countryside and will respect relevant requirements and guidance from landowners, land managers, conservation bodies and access authorities.

Where we identify particular environmental sensitivities, we will adapt our activities or routes where reasonably practicable to reduce potential impacts.

7. Equipment and Resources

When purchasing or replacing equipment and supplies, we will consider durability, suitability, repairability and environmental impact where reasonably practicable.

We will seek to maintain and repair equipment where this is safe and appropriate rather than replacing items unnecessarily.

Safety and suitability for the intended activity will remain the primary considerations when selecting equipment.

8. Responsibility

Environmental responsibility is shared across Nature’s Work. We will encourage staff, instructors, guides, suppliers and clients to support the principles contained within this policy.

Nature’s Work will review this policy periodically and update it where appropriate to reflect changes in our operations, environmental priorities, legislation and recognised good practice.
